About H3D
H3D started with Dr. Philip Kinsella, our co-founder and now CTO, who began his journey as a PhD researcher at Swinburne University, in Australia. He kept seeing the same problem in hearing labs: custom‑fit devices were still designed manually, one by one, slowing everyone down.
When Phil proved that it was possible to automate the entire custom‑fit design process, Starfish Ventures and Swinburne University backed him early, helping turn his research into a real company.
What began as a research project, Iain Mcleod (co-founder and CEO) and Phil has now grown the technology into an AI platform trusted by labs worldwide. In 2025, H3D secured a $5.8M Series A round, led by Significant Ventures with participation from Swinburne University and Co:Act Capital, to accelerate our impact across both the hearing and dental industries. That Series A also marked a key milestone in our story: the official expansion of H3D’s automation platform into the dental industry, addressing the bottlenecks created by manual CAD work and enabling dental labs to process hundreds of cases in minutes — just as we had already achieved in audio.
Since launching AutoDesign, our technology has already produced millions of hearing aids, hearing protection, consumer audio and dental products for labs globally—proof that automation can be accurate, reliable, and a true partner to labs.
Today, our mission stays simple: Automate the custom‑fit journey so labs can scale effortlessly, deliver consistent quality, and focus their talent where it matters most.
